March to the Scaffold
There are several versions available - this one preserves as many aspects as it can of Berlioz’s groundbreaking orchestration and aims to sound as much like the original as possible (or even as the composer might have written it for wind instruments alone). The entire brass section playing the final G major chords has no great significance to modern ears but the audience of the day had never heard anything like it before.
The audio track tries to depict some of the detail in Berlioz's bloodthirsty crowd and is gripping in its own way.
